According to history, William Wallace enjoyed his last drink from this well as a free man. He was in Rab Raa’s Toun (Robroyston) on his way to Glasgow in order to speak with the Bishop of Glasgow (Robert Wishart) for assistance in his fight for Scottish independence. He was betrayed and captured by English soldiers at a farmhouse nearby on 5th August 1305.

The well was listed in 1970 but listing was removed in 2001.
